Portrait Painting with Diana Williams  Register Now

Every Monday and Friday: Monday, July 31 – Friday, August 18
1:30 – 3:30 PM in ArtWorks Classroom

Background
After raising five daughters and taking care of the ancient homestead property where her and her husband live, Diana Williams’ husband presented her with a small oil paint set. Her husband suggested she move on from the small sketches she had done throughout the years of her beloved family.

With the help of mentor and friend Jackie Dixon, Diana spent her later years pursing the daunting task of becoming a self-trained portrait artist, what she had only dreamed of since her teens. Her works show her unique ability to capture not only the likeness, but also the true spirit o f her subjects.

Objective
The objective is to become familiar with the unique methods used by portrait painter Diana Williams. Her goal will be to teach and demonstrate the steps so that each student will have the necessary information to use as they practice. These sessions will help the student understand the process so that they can apply the techniques within their own skill set.

The amount of material we will cover in class is vast so when class time begins we will be focusing on learning the process. Even though my students claim to really enjoy this training, all students who apply should be expecting an intense program of study. Realizing varying degrees of success is the reward more so than the social aspect that is rightly intended in some art classes.

Why Take the Class
Please take advantage of this rare opportunity to learn portrait painting from someone who has a won multitude of prestigious awards in her field, such as, but not limited to, placing seven times in the Latrobe Art League Intra Club Show; four of those, receiving Best In Show. Diana Williams is truly a master of her trade.

Open to all levels of dedicated students. Class size is limited.

Members $150, Non-members $155 for all 6 classes plus $30 material fee (all paint is included)

Students should supply their own:

  • Canvas 11 inches x 14 inches (Upon registration, students will receive email instructions on how to prepare the canvas)
  • Brushes
    • 1 or 2 strong bristle brushes to spread the undercoat on the canvas
    • 2 or 3 fine filberts or flats for details/sable if possible or soft synthetics
    • 1 or 2 medium size soft brushes, no larger than the end of your little finger
    • 1 large fan or soft fluffy mop brush to smooth and ‘knock down’ the brush marks
  • Small Pallet
