Join us for Camp BW, a series of fun art camps that explore the world through art, music, dance, science, history, mindfulness and more. Camps are paired with adventurous field trips and exciting guest visitors. Camp BW is sure to thrill!
Camp Instructions are professional artists and educators with childcare clearances.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Bottle Works offers scholarships for art camps and workshops. Need-based, full or partial scholarships are available and distributed on a first come, first served basis. Funds are very limited. BEFORE & AFTER CARE

Before & after care is available beginning at 8:00 AM and ending at 5:00 PM Cost: $5 per hour (Before & After Care discounts are available, contact Holly Lees for more details).
*Schedules and payment must be submitted to Holly Lees one week prior to the program start date to ensure care.

Camp BW – Week 1: July 6 – 10
Adventures in Art

Monday- Friday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Instructor: Holly Lees, Certified Mindful Schools Instructor

Let’s get adventurous!! Campers will start each day with a mindfulness lesson that encourages kindness and gratefulness as we experience cool ventures. We’ll gain new perspectives and learn about how artists tell stories and express emotion through art. Spin, swing, and splash paint using BW’s giant spin art machine and create an abstract acrylic pour paint piece! Campers will also make clay creations, glaze their own pottery, and build nature sculptures. Adventures in Art is a very popular art camp. Holly will offer new projects and activities. Returning campers are welcome to attend! During field trip day, undergo high-flying experiences at Outdoor Odyssey. Go rock climbing, zip lining, and more on Wednesday, July 8. Camp BW – Week 2: July 13-17
Swish, Splash, & Click: Explore Environmental Conservation, Art & Photography

Monday- Friday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

The swish of brush, the splash of water, and the click of a camera are all sounds you’ll hear during this camp.Learn how art and environmental conservation intersect. Discover how artists use their skills to help the earth and how the Bottle Works building is designed to help the environment. Activities include photography, painting outdoors with watercolors, designing art from recycled materials and more.

On field trip day, guest presenter Ian Smith of Surfs Up Adventures & Conemaugh Valley Conservancy Adventures will facilitate a creek walk and teach us about watersheds.

Camp BW – Week 3: July 20-24
African, Drum, Dance, & Celebration

Instructors: Kulani Members: Holly Lees, Gwen Msolomba, and Jeanette Hunsberger

It’s an African adventure! Campers will immerse themselves in the rich history of drum, dance and the songs of Africa. Experience African culture through food, arts, crafts, and stories! Campers will make their own African style fabric garment and jewelry and enjoy an African meal in community dining style. We will engage in Kulani’s mission of creating community & spreading joy, learning all new dances and drum rhythms never before taught at our summer camps. Students will have the opportunity to be a part of the Kulani Kids troupe and perform with the adult West African Drum and Dance group, Kulani, during Ethnic Fest 2020. This camp is in its 6th year, but each year provides a unique experience for campers.

In lieu of a field trip: The week will include a special visit from guest drum/ dance artist-TBA Camp will include a dance showcase on July 24 at 2:30pm

Wild Things- Animal Art

Prepare for a wild week of fun! Campers will take a walk on the wild side and spend a fun-filled week of furry, feathery, scaly animal adventures. Campers will create their own animal creations from clay and recycled materials and more! We’ll spend a day dressed like our favorite jungle friends and play animal inspired games. Real life animal friends will come to visit us at the Bottle Works. For our field trip, we’ll go offsite to visit fun, farm animals.

Camp BW – Week 5: August 3 – 7
Art of the Olympics

Monday- Friday 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Field Trip Day: Performance Day – 2:30 PM Friday, Aug. 7

As the world comes together for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, the Art of Olympics Camp explores the artistic wonderment that surrounds this event. Students will learn about performance art from the Olympics’ opening & closing ceremonies, graphic design, and fashion design as we check out each countries’ team uniform. Campers will work together to choreograph their own “closing ceremony” complete with props and wall projections, create their own flag to represent Camp BW, and make paper mache torches and props for Camp BW’s Summer Games. We will compete to see who will have the most fun. Events include the art creation triathlon, wet and wild relays, chalk-art long jump and abstract art discus throw.

Field trip: In lieu of a field trip, Camp BW will present their closing ceremony performance for family and friends at 2:30 PM Friday, Aug. 7

End of Summer Bash

Back by popular demand, we are creating a week of wild and wacky fun. It’s one summer party filled with mega fun! We will create unique art using splashy techniques, play and make cool games and crafts, and battle hard during our water balloon fight! Science teacher Barbie Vena will help us make slimy, slithery, and foamy inventions. You can’t end the summer without the infamous color-powder battle that’s sure to cover us in rainbow paint. End of Summer Bash Camp is in its third year, but there will be new games and activities! Returning campers are always welcome.
